Dodgers set date for Ohtani’s official presentation in Los Angeles

THE ANGELS.- The Los Angeles Dodgers will officially present Shohei Ohtani Thursday at a press conference.

The twice elected MVP of the American League agreed over the weekend to sign a record $700 million, 10-year deal.

Ohtani will speak to the press at the Centerfield Plaza at Dodger Stadium during an outdoor press conference.

The 29-year-old star, who stands out as a hitter and pitcher, left the Los Angeles Angels in free agency after six years and signed with the Dodgers in a deal that was officially announced Monday.

He last spoke to reporters on Aug. 9, two weeks before he suffered a pitching injury and that required an operation that will keep him off the mound until 2025. The surgery took place on September 19, but the full nature of the operation was not reported. Ohtani had surgery Tommy John on October 1, 2018.

Ohtani’s decision to move from Anaheim to Hollywood has led fans on both sides of the Pacific Ocean to purchase merchandise and tickets from the Dodgers in the secondary market. The team has not yet launched the sale of individual tickets for the next campaign.

Ohtani’s peculiar pact:

Ohtani will earn $20 million from his contract over the next 10 years and The remaining 680 million will be paid between 2034 and 2043, in an unusual agreement structure that gives the team more salary flexibility in the coming campaigns.

According to your contract, Ohtani’s salary would be $70 million a year, according to details obtained by The Associated Press. But from his annual salary, the player will defer 68 million – without interest – and which will be paid in equal installments every July 1st between 2034 and 2043.
