“Face-to-face talks between Iran and the United States are underway with Pakistan’s mediation. Right now there is a prayer break and after the break, talks will resume,” the source confirmed on condition of anonymity.
The diplomat did not detail the content of this meeting, which included the senior officials of both delegations, led by the US Vice President, JD Vance, and the President of the Iranian Parliament, Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf.
This direct contact represents the highest level between the US and the theocratic regime since the so-called Islamic revolution of 1979, and comes after a morning in which the two delegations met separately with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif.
Iranians demand control of Hormuz
According to Iran, it would have conveyed to Pakistan its conditions, such as control of the Strait of Hormuz, the release of blocked Iranian assets and a ceasefire that would apply throughout the region, including Lebanon, according to Iranian state radio and television.
On the other hand, Iranian media reported this Saturday that the United States had agreed to unlock part of the frozen assets of the Islamic Republic as a gesture of goodwill to advance peace negotiations, a point that has been denied by Washington.
After a first session of almost two hours, the dialogue has moved from general aspects to the discussion of technical details coordinated by experts from both parties, reported the Iranian agency Tasnim.
Although the summit was scheduled for a single day, diplomatic sources do not rule out that the talks will last until Sunday to close the technical aspects of the agreement.
“Clearance process” of mines in the Strait of Hormuz
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, affirmed this Saturday that the “process of clearing” mines in the Strait of Hormuz has already begun, while his country and Iran begin peace negotiations in Pakistan to end the war.
“We are now beginning the process of cleaning up the Strait of Hormuz as a favor to countries around the world, including China, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany and many others,” he said on his Truth Social network.
Trump, who has criticized his allies in recent weeks for refusing to militarily reopen the sea route blocked by Tehran, assured that those countries “do not have the courage or the will to do this job themselves.”
He also attacked the media because, as he said, “they love to say that Iran is winning when, in reality, everyone knows that they are losing, and losing a lot.”
“Its Navy has disappeared, its Air Force has disappeared, its anti-aircraft system is non-existent, its radars have died, its missile and drone factories have been practically annihilated along with the missiles and drones themselves and, most importantly, its lifelong ‘leaders’ are no longer with us, praise Allah!” he said.
Increase in fertilizers
In another message this Saturday, he assured that he is closely monitoring fertilizer prices, affected by the war, and that he “will not tolerate speculation” that harms American farmers.
Likewise, he stated that a large number of oil tankers from around the world are heading to the United States to “load the best and most precious oil”, in reference to the American one, due to the war in Iran.
Trump warned that he will open the Strait of Hormuz by force if talks fail.
Since the announcement of the temporary ceasefire between both countries, some ships have transited through the Strait of Hormuz, although tensions maintain uncertainty about the strength of the truce.
Trump also said that the entire Iranian mineboat fleet, consisting of 28 ships, “lies at the bottom of the sea” from US attacks.
