Bogotá– The death of the presidential candidate of Colombia, Miguel Uribe Turbayone of the most promising young politicians of democratic parties, is a clear maximum alarm sign for Colombia, which seeks to silence anyone who thinks differently from Gustavo PetroAffirms the political analyst and journalist Sofy Casas.
Casas, columnist of the Week Magazine, affected journalistic rigor for Las Américas Diario Where he collaborates, the impact of death From Senator Uribe this August 11 in the early morning, then a medical battle for his life during the two months and four days of the attack against him in a political act in Bogotá.
Miguel Uribe, 39 years old, was candidate for the Democratic Center Party for the presidential elections of May 2026, with great acceptance among Colombians, for his firm questioning of Petro’s policies, when his attack occurred.
His death, unable to overcome the serious injuries, opens a new stage of political violence in Colombia and points to the risks of Colombian democratic leaders, in the midst of the crisis, according to Casas.
“The murder of Miguel Uribe is a maximum alarm signal for Colombia, we do not talk about a fact of common violence, but about a magnicide that carries the seal of power and the intention to shut up who thinks differently, that is the problem. And this is not only against Miguel, this is a direct message to all who dare to question the regime that Petro is consolidating in Colombia,” he said.
“It is the same libretto of Venezuela and Cuba,” he emphasizes.
Death of Miguel Uribe
For houses, the shock of the death of the young senator “is very strong because he had a very promising future, he was driving clear, he said things as they are, he was against Gustavo Petro’s government policies.”
He recalled his ascending and wise political career, which began very young in the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá, a family heritage. His grandfather Julio César Turbay was president of Colombia (1978-1982) who faced the guerrillas of the M19 to which Petro belonged. “From there comes Petro’s hatred against the turbay.”
His mother Diana Turbay, active journalist and private secretary of her father during her government, was killed in January 1991 by drug trafficking.
“Miguel had been preparing for this new stage of his life,” he says, but did not get the protection by the Colombian State by Petro.
“It became a very easy target for them. According to complaints, they tried more than three times to kill Miguel and therefore requested more than 22 times by email to the National Protection Unit to increase custody, because he knew at risk and denied it the same number of times. The State denied protection of Miguel Uribe,” he says.
Doubtful justice in Colombia
While the country is shocked by the death of Miguel Uribe, the justice system is not reliable, says Casas.
“You have to say things as they are, this a magnicide, the prosecution month and a half ago said that its attack had political ends and Petro immediately jumped against. This is a political crime and I do not trust justice.” And he says he thinks as a journalist and columnist, vigilant of the facts.
“The Colombian Prosecutor’s Office is in the hands of a pocket prosecutor who was ternated by Petro and has not worked with the NGO scandal and on the planning of the murder of Miguel Uribe,” he says.
It is based on facts. This Monday, the material author of the murder, a 17 -year -old teenager who is being held, accepted the illegal carriers of firearms and “attempt at aggravated homicide”, a crime that would change with the death of Uribe as a result of the attack.
In addition, justice does not show speed in the arrests of at least 10 people incriminated in the planning and execution of the attack, according to the fiscal investigation, including that of Elder José Arteaga Hernández, aka “El Costeño”, indicated as an intellectual author of the attack and linked to Dissidencies of the FARC.
Also, the inexplicated escape still from another teenager who had given himself to the authorities, is another of the irregularities in the process. “Who let him escape?” He asks.
“One sees the ordinary justice so infiltrated and with what happened with the conviction of former president Álvaro Uribe Vélez with a judge who is absolutely politicized and what confidence can one have in that institution?
