Crime: Media: Motive of Trump assassin continues to raise questions

The shooter is said to have searched the internet for events with both Trump and Biden before committing the attack. FBI investigators have revealed new details.

Following the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, investigators are still unable to make a clear statement about the shooter’s motive, according to consistent media reports. The man searched the internet for events with both Trump and President Joe Biden, reported NBC News and MSNBC, among others, citing high-ranking FBI officials. The Trump rally was probably a “target of opportunity.”

On July 13, a gunman shot at Trump from a nearby roof at a campaign event in the state of Pennsylvania. Trump was wounded in the right ear by a bullet, and the perpetrator was shot dead by security forces shortly afterwards. One visitor died and two others were injured. The event in the city of Butler took place outdoors.

Investigators were able to identify a “mix of ideologies,” NBC News reported. “I would say we don’t see a clear ideology associated with our target, neither left-leaning nor right-leaning,” the media quoted an official as saying. They are still evaluating all the leads and drawing conclusions.

The shooter made thorough efforts to plan an attack over a long period of time, looking at a number of events and targets before finally focusing on the Trump rally. The FBI also released photos of the shooter’s weapon, a backpack and the explosives the shooter had in his car at the rally.
