CARACAS.- Great expectations have been generated among lovers of careers mountain bikers and athletes in general, the announcement of the second edition of Canaima Trail Race, a sporting event that will take place on June 14 with a route designed to travel along roads, while enjoying the natural beauties of the Canaima National Park, in Venezuela.
This multipurpose initiative joins forces among organizers, allies and sponsors in order to promote the tourism sports, promote sports among the Pemón community and leave marks with social work aimed at benefiting the residents of Canaima.
In a meeting with the media, in which DIARIO LAS AMÉRICAS was present, the commercial director of the Ara Meru Lodge hotel, Alejandra Díaz, highlighted that one of the objectives of the race is to create new strategies to motivate tourists to vacation in Canaima. .
“In sports and social terms there is so much to do, it is an opportunity. Canaima is iconic, Angel Falls is an emblem of our country internationally. What is the idea? That people can see all the potential and come,” he highlighted. Díaz, who noted that this proposal seeks to give a new look at the nature that is developing in the state of Bolívar.
Another look at Canaima
“We wanted to give Canaima another look and give people a different excuse to visit the national park; in addition to enjoying its natural beauties and practicing sports disciplines, while getting to know its places of interest. We want to promote sports in the community and promote sports tourism,” said the director of said hotel.
In this way, the participants of the second edition of the Canaima Trail Race will run two distances: one, 16 kilometers; another of 28 kilometers. A seven-kilometer recreational walk will also be added.
To achieve this boost between sports and tourism, the organizers designed complete accommodation packages of four days and three nights, which include accommodation, air tickets, food and registration for the race. Those who wish to attend have the freedom to choose the camp of their choice, offered by the ancestral place.
“Last year we had international participants from Chile and Colombia. This year Venezuelans are coming from Panama… fortunately they are going to open the Boa Vista (Brazil)-Puerto Ordaz (Venezuela) and São Paulo-Puerto Ordaz route; (with these upcoming routes ) the idea is for Brazilians to come, who like the trekking (hiking). In addition, they are very familiar with the part of Roraima and the Gran Sabana,” explained Alejandra Díaz. “The idea is also to recover Brazilian tourists, who were afraid of situations that many of us already know, so that they come to Venezuela,” he added.
Regarding the technical details of the event, the representative of Ultramarathons Venezuela, José Zamora, explained that this race will be ecological, so there will be existing trails.
“We are going to have everything signposted and the marks that we are going to use are wooden stakes, which will later – once the event is over – be removed. We want to leave the smallest footprint possible,” said Zamora, who added that security will be part of the event. of the logistics of the race. “We will have technical personnel, who will be fully prepared. There will be refreshment and control points, where participants will have their hydration; Likewise, there will be solid and they will be able to recharge the liquids,” he indicated.
Canaima Trail Race has the support of Nestea, Pura Vida spring water, Gu, Bioderma, Concepto 50, ASK and Cobeca group.
