The former head of state’s office announced at the end of May that the 82-year-old had been diagnosed with prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones. The news raised new doubts about Biden’s health during his presidency and his – eventually withdrawn – run for office again last year.
Following news of his Democratic predecessor’s illness, the current incumbent, Donald Trump, suggested a cover-up of the cancer diagnosis. In June, the Republican ordered an investigation into this. Trump specifically directed the White House counsel to “investigate whether certain individuals conspired to lie to the public about Biden’s mental state.” Biden and his team vehemently reject the cover-up allegations.
