Bayern Munich does not tolerate racist insults to one of its players

MUNICH-. He Bayern Munich condemned the racist comments sent to the defender Dayot Upamecano on social media after being sent off in the team’s loss to Lazio in the Champions League.

The French player’s Instagram account was flooded with racist comments after the 1-0 loss to Lazio on Wednesday in the round of 16. Upamecano saw the red card for a challenge on Gustav Isaksen that ended in a penalty goal for the Italian hosts.

“FC Bayern strongly condemns the racist comments against Dayot Upamecano on social media. Anyone who expresses such hateful comments is not a fan of our club. We are all with you, Upa!”, Bayern published on the X network, the former Twitter.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen mentioned the insults at the team hotel after the game, German news agency dpa reported.

“What has angered me in particular has been the disgusting comments on social media. To do that, the only thing I can say is that it is disgusting,” Dreesen said, quoted by dpa. “This kind of racist riffraff, this is not our world. This is not FC Bayern. It is something that we will not tolerate.”

Upamecano had already been the victim of racist insults on social networks after Bayern succumbed last year to Manchester City in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
