MIAMI.- This December 21 is World Health Day. Basketball. It is a universal grassroots sport that is practiced by people of all ages. Includes both organized leagues and informal matches.
The origin of basketball dates back to December 21, 1891 at the YMCA International Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts, in the United States. It was in 1892 when women began to practice this sport: they debuted at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games.
“Basketball has a global presence and a great impact in the global spheres of trade, peace and diplomacy. “It creates a unique space of cooperation and physical movement and interdependence that allows participants to see each other as human beings first and foremost,” says the United Nations.
This sport has a large presence in the United States, Europe, Asia and other regions.
Hall of Fame
In the world, at least 450 million people play basketball, according to the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
