After giving up Roland Garros, Alcaraz also rules out playing at Wimbledon

MADRID.- After having to give up defending the crown in Roland GarrosSpanish Carlos Alcaraz you also have to give up Wimbledon as a result of the wrist injury that has kept him off the slopes for just over a month.

Double winner of the great annual event of the grass season, Alcaraz will not have the opportunity to try to recover a title of which he was dispossessed last year by his great rival, the Italian Jannik Sinnerwho defeated him in the final in four sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-4 and 6-4).

In addition to Wimbledon (June 29 to July 12), Alcaraz will also not be able to compete in the tournament. Queen’swhich traditionally serves as preparation for the Grand Slam.

“My recovery is on the right track and I feel much better, but unfortunately I am not ready to play yet and that is why I have to give up the grass tour at Queen’s and Wimbledon,” the Spanish tennis player wrote in X this Tuesday.

“They are two really special tournaments for me and I will miss them a lot. We continue working to return as soon as possible!” added the winner of seven Grand Slams.

After his defeat against Sinner in the final of Monte Carlo which meant ceding the world No. 1 to the Italian, Alcaraz had to retire in the tournament Barcelona after suffering some discomfort in his right wrist during his debut that at first seemed of no great importance.

But a few days later he had to resign. Madrid Masters 1000 and ended up not being able to play in the remainder of the dirt tour, including the Rome and, above all, Roland Garroswhere the Murcian hoped to fight starting Sunday to revalidate the title achieved last year, precisely against Sinner.

Free way for Sinner

The injury is “a little more serious than we all expected,” declared Alcaraz after announcing his withdrawal from the Madrid Masters 1000.

“We are clear that this has to recover very well if I do not want it to harm me later in the future,” then added the winner of seven Grand Slam tournaments, who in January completed the four majors after winning for the first time in Australia.

With Alcaraz offside, Sinner has the opportunity to continue adding titles and distance himself in No. 1.

After completing the nine Masters 1000 circuit in Rome ATP (the second tennis player to achieve it after Novak Djokovic) and add 29 consecutive victories, Sinner will be the undisputed favorite for Roland Garros, with which he would also complete the collection of Grand Slams.
