The elected president of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriellaissued a forceful public statement, after learning of the court ruling that acquitted Santiago Uribebrother of the former president Álvaro Uribe Vélez.
In the video published on social networks, he celebrated the determination of the courts and launched strong questions against various political leaders of the left in Colombia, focusing his criticism on the position adopted by President Gustavo Petro.
At the beginning of his speech, De la Espriella affirmed that the judicial resolution represents an act of justice in the face of what he described as a prolonged persecution.
“After almost 30 years of an infamous judicial persecution in which the mafia boss, Gustavo Petro; the tartufo, Juan Manuel Santos; the deranged bald Eduardo Montealegre; the diabolical friend of the guerrilla, Iván Cepeda; and other absolutely unpresentable vermin of the radical left, justice has done what was legally appropriate and has acquitted Santiago Uribe, the president’s brother, of all charges. Uribe,” said the president-elect during the broadcast on social networks.
He emphasized the importance of defending the innocence of the accused in the judicial courts.
Likewise, De la Espriella stated categorically that “Santiago Uribe’s only crime was being the brother of the great Colombian.”
Points towards Petrism and the political narrative
De la Espriella linked the outcome of the judicial process with the recent political dynamics of the country and the position assumed by the head of state before and after the official ruling was announced.
Regarding the attitude prior to the verdict, he noted that “for several weeks the mafia boss Gustavo Petro has been concerned with the results of this trial of Santiago Uribe,” adding that this occurs because “he was behind this setup from the first day.”
Regarding the strategy of his political detractors, he asserted that “the mangy lefties needed that conviction to support the sinister narrative they invented against the Uribes,” concluding that with the acquittal “they dropped the fable.”
As for the reaction of the outgoing president, Gustavo Petro, to the judicial decision, De la Espriella harshly described him: “How miserable, cynical, fake and scoundrel that Petro is? Not only does he disrespect justice by ignoring its decisions, but he also poses as a champion of morality when his conscience is dirtier than a single ranch.”
Also, he alluded to Petro’s political career and the questions about his administration. He recalled that he is a political actor who became president “because precisely justice did not act diligently at the time, leaving a criminal guerrilla like him unpunished.”
Finally, De la Espriella called for collective memory about the complaints that weigh around the current mandate. He stated that they have not forgotten “the illegal financing of his campaign and the multiple and daily acts of corruption that became the mark of his ill-fated misgovernment.”
He closed his speech by reaffirming his position towards the president: “I tell you again, unpunished guerrilla, mafia boss, you are the boss; you do not have the level, the greatness or the condition to be a true head of state, you are a tiny and repulsive character because you are full of hatred, complexes and envy.”
