MIAMI.- The escort Klay Thompson expressed his desire to win a new championship of the NBA next to Greek Giannis Antetokounmpoupon being presented this Tuesday as a new player of the Miami Heat.
Four-time league champion with the Golden State WarriorsThompson joined the Heat after being released from the Dallas Maverickswhom he defended in the last two seasons.
“It’s a great motivation, Giannis already knows what it means to win,” Thompson said at the event at the Kaseya Centerthe Heat arena. “When you feel it for the first time you do everything possible to come back, I think I have a lot to prove, I feel like I can do it on a winning team.”
The 2026-2027 season is “one of redemption to prove that I can still perform at this level, I am very excited,” added Thompson, 36 years old and with thirteen years of experience in the NBA, eleven of them with Golden State.
The Miami project, which has Antetokounmpo as the main figure, seeks to emulate its golden era, in which it won two NBA titles between 2010 and 2014 at the hands of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
“We are going to let this (new) team write its own history,” commented the coach Erik Spoelstra. “In five weeks we will begin work and begin to build a story that will hopefully end in a spectacular way.”
Connection with the city
Thompson’s arrival in Miami is marked by an unbreakable connection with his father, who grew up in this city, in addition to his proximity to the Bahamas, land of his paternal grandparents.
“Being so close to the Bahamas is very special, I can play in front of my cousins and my aunts, I feel like I’m in my second home and that really motivates me,” highlighted the guard, owner of the record for three-pointers in a game with 14.
Thompson has made 2,899 three-point shots and is looking to surpass 3,000, a figure that only his former teammate on the Warriors has achieved. Stephen Curryand “The Beard” James Harden.
Last season, Thompson averaged 11.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists. It was his eleventh season scoring at least 200 three-pointers.
