NEW YORK.- The mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdaniand the American Tennis Federation (USTA) announced on Tuesday that 1,000 tickets will go on sale at $100 each to attend from Sunday to US Open.
Offered online this Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. local (2:00 p.m. GMT), on a first-come, first-served basis, these tickets will be available only to New York residents, who can purchase up to two each.
These are seats for the main draw of the tournament, which begins on Sunday, some of them on the prestigious courts Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrongthe main ones of the complex Flushing Meadows, New York.
According to TicketData, an independent ticket price tracking platform, the cheapest ticket to attend the US Open is currently selling for about $288 on average.
“If the best tennis players in the world come to our city, New Yorkers should be able to see them play,” the Democratic mayor, who has made the fight against the high cost of living the central focus of his mandate, declared in a statement.
“Access to tennis will always continue to be our priority, and we are proud to be able to offer this proposal” to the inhabitants of New York, “a city that has hosted the US Open for more than 100 years,” he stressed, for his part, Craig Tiley, general director of the USTA.
