ASSUMPTION.-The actor Tito Jara, considered a leader in the independent theater of Paraguay, died this Wednesday at the age of 92, reported his family and cultural institutions of the South American country.
“I have to give the very sad news of the death of the great playwright, actor, theater and film director, Don Tito Jara Román (my father), who has just left us due to natural causes at the age of 92,” the son of the artist Vladimir Jara said on the social network X.
Jara Román was a prominent actor, theater director and founded the Teatro Experimental Asunceno (TEA), where he contributed to the development of the performing arts in Paraguay and promoted the training of new generations of artists, the National Secretariat of Culture published on social networks.
“His commitment to theater left a deep mark on the cultural history of Paraguay,” indicated the Culture portfolio.
Likewise, the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (Fondec) and the Cultural Center of the Republic El Cabildo, of the Congress of Paraguay, expressed their “deep regret” on the X network, which described the actor as “one of the most transcendent figures of the performing arts and Paraguayan cinema.”
Born in the city of Puerto Casado, in the department of Alto Paraguay (west), in 1933, Jara trained at the ‘Roque Centurión Miranda’ Municipal School of Performing Arts in Asunción, where he had the Paraguayan Spanish writer, playwright and journalist Josefina Pla (1903-1999) as a teacher.
Jara also participated in Paraguayan film productions such as ‘El Trueno entre las Hojas’, ‘La Sangre y la Seed’, ‘Cerro Corá’, ‘Libertad’, ‘Luna de Cigarras’ and ‘7 Cajas’, the latter the highest-grossing film in the country, released in 2012.
