The British Tyson Fury affirmed that he has not yet shown his best level in the ring, a few days after playing a preparation fight in Thailand before the expected confrontation against Anthony Joshua, scheduled for the end of this year.
The former world heavyweight champion, who will soon turn 38, will face Polish veteran Mariusz Wach this Friday at the Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya, in a fight whose profits will go to a charity that supports disadvantaged children in that city.
“I don’t have the impression that the world has already seen the best of Tyson Fury,” declared the man known as the “Gipsy King”, who said he felt renewed after changing the setting initially planned in Dublin for the fight in Thailand.
“It’s a beautiful place, with wonderful people. I feel at peace, whereas before I had a lot of pressure. I feel rejuvenated,” said Fury, who insisted that money was not the reason for his return to boxing.
“I have earned a lot of money during my career. I box to stay in shape and because I enjoy doing it. I have earned the right to do exactly what I want from now on,” he added.
The fight will be held in a venue with capacity for just 1,500 spectators, a figure much lower than what the Briton could call on large stages. “I could have sold 100,000 tickets at Wembley,” he said.
Fury avoided talking about the expected duel against Anthony Joshua, promoted as the “Battle of England”, and assured that all his attention is focused on beating Wach first.
The British boxer returned to activity this year after spending a year without fighting after suffering two consecutive defeats against the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk at the end of 2024. In April he returned with a unanimous decision victory over the Russian Arslanbek Makhmudov in London.
For his part, Joshua will also have action this weekend when he faces Albanian Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia, in his first fight since the car accident in Nigeria last December.
