Kimi Antonelli wins the British GP sprint race and extends his lead in F1

The Italian Kimi Antonelli confirmed his great moment in the 2026 season by winning this Saturday in the sprint race of the British Grand Prix, held at the Silverstone Circuit.

The Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team driver, current leader of the Formula 1 World Championship, overtook the British Lewis Hamilton, who had started from pole position and led the first laps before giving up first place in the eighth of the 17 agreed laps.

Hamilton tried to maintain the lead from the start and opened a slight advantage over Antonelli, who always remained less than a second behind until finding the ideal moment to make the decisive overtake. From there, the Italian controlled the pace until crossing the finish line first.

The current world champion, Lando Norris, completed the podium after an intense fight in the chasing group alongside Oscar Piastri, George Russell, Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen.

Russell finished fourth and lost ground in the championship standings, as Antonelli scored 12 points in the sprint race, extending his lead over his teammate.

Leclerc finished fifth, followed by Verstappen and Piastri, while Liam Lawson took eighth position to score the last available points. Frenchman Isack Hadjar finished ninth.

The Silverstone test was the fourth sprint race of the season, after those held in China, Miami and Canada. Unlike the previous three, this time the driver who started from pole failed to convert that advantage into victory, with Antonelli putting in a new performance to reinforce his candidacy for the world title.
