Zverev remains unstoppable in Halle and will face Fritz in the semifinals

The German Alexander Zverev continues to show that he is going through one of the best moments of his career. The world number three and recent Roland Garros champion qualified this Friday for the semifinals of the ATP 500 in Halle after beating Belgian Raphaël Collignon 7-6 (12/10) and 7-6 (7/2).

The first seed had to work hard to defeat a rival who reached the main draw from the qualifying phase. Both sets were decided in the tie-break, where Zverev showed his experience to seal a victory that extends his consecutive winning streak on the ATP circuit to ten.

His next opponent will be the American Taylor Fritz, who starred in one of the most exciting matches of the day by beating his compatriot Ben Shelton 6-7 (5/7), 7-6 (10/8) and 7-6 (7/3) after two hours and 45 minutes of battle on the German grass.

The victory allowed Fritz to take revenge for the defeat suffered against Shelton last Sunday in the final of the Stuttgart tournament.

Altmaier surprises Medvedev

The other big surprise of the quarterfinals came from the German Daniel Altmaier, who eliminated the Russian Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 6-7 (6/8) and 6-4.

Medvedev, a finalist in Halle in 2022 and 2025, failed to impose his experience and was left out of the tournament against an inspired Altmaier who will now seek a place in the final.

His opponent in the semifinals will be the American Frances Tiafoe, who came back to defeat the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 3-6, 6-3 and 7-6 (12/14).

Tiafoe thus maintains his great week in Halle, where he had already caused a surprise in the first round by eliminating the Italian Flavio Cobolli, recent runner-up at Roland Garros.

The semifinals will pit Zverev against Fritz and Altmaier against Tiafoe, in a day that will define the two contenders for the title on the German grass.
