Trump says Iran asked him to stop bombing on second day of defensive strikes

It is the second consecutive day of attacks against the Islamic Republic, after the downing of a US helicopter on Monday by an Iranian drone.

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, spoke this Wednesday with a group of Iranian officials from the crisis room of the White House, to demand that they accept his negotiations while the United States Central Command (Centcom) carried out bombings in the Islamic Republic according to Fox News.

Trump told Fox News that Iranian leaders had called him to ask him to stop bombing their territory.

The US president also stated that US forces launched 49 Tomahawk missiles during the new air raid carried out in Iran.

If Tehran does not accept Washington’s conditions to end the war, which began on February 28, “President Trump said, and I quote, ‘Tomorrow night we will bomb them to the ground,'” said journalist Trey Yingst, who spoke with the president.

The president explained that during the operations carried out tonight there was no collaboration from the Israeli armed forces, as on other occasions.

Conflict escalation

The Central Command of the United States Army (CENTCOM) announced this Wednesday new attacks “in legitimate defense” against different targets in Iran, in response to the bombings carried out during the early hours of the morning by Iranian forces against US bases located in Bahrain and other points in the Middle East.

Centcom, which did not clarify the duration of the aggressions or the objectives, maintained that the “bombings are in response to Iran’s unjustified and continuous aggressions.”

“The forces of the United States Central Command have begun to launch today, at 5:15 p.m. (11:00 p.m. Spanish peninsular time), new attacks in legitimate defense against multiple targets in Iran, following the instructions of the commander in chief (Donald Trump),” the military body reported on its social networks.

CENTCOM noted in the same message that “these attacks are a response to Iran’s unjustified and continued aggression,” hours after the White House tenant threatened to attack the Islamic Republic for the second consecutive day, insisting that Tehran has to sign without further delay the agreement that they have been negotiating for weeks.

Minutes after the Central Command’s announcement, explosions have been recorded in Bandar Abbas, a city located in front of the Strait of Hormuz where an Iranian base is located, as well as in Sirik county – located in the province of Hormozgan (southern) – and on the islands of Qeshm and Hengam, according to information collected by the Iranian news agency Mehr.

Iran attacks US bases

It should be remembered that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility in the early hours of this Wednesday for launching a wave of drone attacks against United States bases in Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait, in “retaliation” for the attacks perpetrated hours earlier by Washington against various enclaves of the Islamic Republic.

US forces initiated “additional strikes in self-defense against multiple targets in Iran,” US Central Command said in a post on X.

Closure of the Strait of Hormuz

The United States denied this Wednesday that the Strait of Hormuz is closed, as Iran assured shortly after Washington began a new wave of attacks in the highest peak of tension since the ceasefire was signed on April 8.

And the Iranian Army announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz “completely” to all types of vessels, against which it warned that it will shoot if they try to cross this disputed point, key to the global oil trade.

“The Strait of Hormuz has been completely closed to all types of vessels, including commercial ships,” said the Khatam al Anbiya Central Headquarters in a statement reported by the Tasnim agency.

The CETCOM denied the information from the Revolutionary Guard. “Tonight, commercial vessels continue to transit in and out of the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.

The United States military denied reports from Iran that they had attacked a US warship. “No American warships have been hit.”

The Iranian Army command added that any ship seeking to cross the strait will become “a target.” In fact, the Revolutionary Guard published a message, also collected by Tasnim, where they claimed to have shot at two ships that tried to cross Hormuz.

The General Headquarters also described as false an alleged “secret” operation announced on Wednesday by US President Donald Trump, to support the transit of oil tankers through Hormuz.

“Today I am pleased to announce that this initiative has allowed more than 100 million barrels of oil to cross the strait and reach the open market,” Trump said.

The US president had already warned on Wednesday that he would attack Iran “toughly” tonight, a warning later reiterated by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, despite the fact that the previous weekend the White House had insisted that an agreement with Tehran to end the war was close.

The night between Tuesday and Wednesday was already the scene of crossed attacks, with new US bombings against Iran and Tehran’s response on US bases in countries in the region.
