Real Madrid will hold presidential elections on June 7 and Florentino Pérez does not seem a favorite

Real Madrid confirmed that the elections for the club’s presidency will be held on June 7, 2026, in elections that will pit the current president Florentino Pérez and businessman Enrique Riquelme face to face.

As reported by the white entity in an official statement, voting will take place uninterruptedly between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. in the Basketball Pavilion of Real Madrid City. In addition, members will have the possibility of exercising their right to vote by mail.

It will be the first time since 2006 that the Madrid club faces a presidential election with more than one candidate. Those elections took place after the resignation of Florentino Pérez at the end of his first stage at the head of the institution and ended with the victory of Ramón Calderón.

After the departure of Calderón in 2009 and the brief interim term of Vicente Boluda, Florentino Pérez returned to the presidency as the sole candidate in the June elections of that year.

Since then, the Madrid leader was re-elected without opposition in 2013, 2017, 2021 and 2025, consolidating one of the most successful stages in the club’s history both at a sporting and institutional level.

On this occasion, the businessman in the renewable energy sector Enrique Riquelme will be the only rival of Pérez, who decided to call elections on May 12.
