LOS ANGELES.- The Colombian baseball player Gio Urshela This Monday he concluded his decade of career in the Major Leaguesin which his three seasons with the New York Yankees.
The 34-year-old player from Cartagena had been without a team since March, after he failed to get a place on the Los Angeles team. Minnesota Twinswho had invited him to their preseason.
“Dear baseball, today the day has arrived, the day you never dream of, the day you can’t imagine, that you never expect to happen, but deep down you know that one day it will come,” Urshela wrote in a farewell message on Instagram.
“Today is the day to close this chapter as a professional player and this is not to be sad, it is to be grateful to God for allowing me to play this beautiful sport that changed my life,” he stated.
Urshela, who competed in March with Colombia in it World Baseball Classicplayed for eight teams since his debut in 2015 with the Cleveland Guardians.
His best period was between 2019 and 2021, becoming a fundamental piece of the Yankees, with whom he hit 41 home runs and 296 hits in 292 games.
The Colombian also played in the Tiles, Twins, Angels, Tigers, Braves and Athleticswith whom he closed his career last year batting .238 with 20 runs batted in and no home runs in 59 games.
