Guardiola leaves open his possible departure from Manchester City after losing the Premier League

Pep Guardiola’s future at the head of Manchester City remains in doubt. The Catalan coach assured this Tuesday that he will have to meet with the club’s board at the end of the season to decide if he will continue on the citizen bench.

The statements came after the 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth, a result that officially ended City’s chances of winning the Premier League and confirmed Arsenal FC as champions for the first time in 22 years.

Amid growing rumors about a possible departure after the last league match against Aston Villa FC, Guardiola avoided confirming his continuity and made it clear that he will first speak with the club’s leadership.

“The first person I have to talk to is my president. When the season ends we will sit down and talk, and then we will make a decision,” Guardiola told Sky Sports.

The Spanish coach also explained that he did not want to publicly address his future during the competition to avoid affecting the team’s performance.

“When we play the FA Cup or the Premier League I only have one thing on my mind: trying to take the team to the highest point,” he added.

If his departure were to happen, it would end one of the most successful cycles in the history of English football. Since arriving in 2016, Guardiola has transformed Manchester City into a European power, winning 20 titles, including six Premier League championships and a UEFA Champions League.

The 55-year-old also previously made his mark at FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich, establishing himself as one of the most influential managers of the modern era.
