NFL legend announces his retirement at the end of the 2026 season

WASHINGTON.- The Field Marshal Aaron Rodgersfuture member of Hall of Fameconfirmed this Wednesday that he will end his career in the NFL at the end of the 2026 season.

four times Most Valuable Player of the American Football League (NFL), Rodgers signed a one-year contract this week with the Pittsburgh Steelerswhich he had already joined the previous season under the direction of then head coach Mike Tomlin.

The agreement reunites him with his former head coach in the Green Bay Packers, Mike McCarthywho joined the Steelers in January following Tomlin’s departure following the team’s elimination in the wild card round of the playoffs.

“There’s definitely a full-circle component that piqued my interest,” the 42-year-old quarterback said of his return to working with McCarthy.

Rodgers acknowledged that there were “some doubts” about his continuity in the league and the possibility of playing a 22nd season.

“I’ve had a good conversation with Mike since he was hired. It felt good to come back,” he added.

The quarterback explained that the situation is different from last year, since he knows several teammates and part of the coaching staff.

Rodgers spent much of his career under McCarthy’s direction in Green Bay, where together they won the Super Bowl in 2011precisely against the Steelers.

His future had been in doubt after the team’s elimination in the playoffs in January, when he suffered four sacks and completed just 17 passes in a 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans.

McCarthy’s arrival fueled speculation about his continuity, especially after the coach expressed his desire to have the player.

Rodgers, winner of the Most Valuable Player award in 2011, 2014, 2020 and 2021 with the Packers, had joined the Steelers in 2025 after a brief spell in the New York Jets.
