MIAMI.- There are works that dazzle with their large sets; and there are others, much more complex and valuable, that manage to thrill only with the human truth that occurs on stage. That precisely happens with ‘Nuclear’an intimate, deeply Venezuelan, and emotionally honest proposal that turns migrant nostalgia into music and humor through the performances of Simón Ruiz, vocalist of the famous Venezuelan group CAIBO; Gustavo Finol and Mónica Quintero.
Seeking to honor each silence and musical note that represents the emotional weight of those who have had to rebuild far from home, he manages to deliver heartfelt, warm, human interpretations, capable of making the audience laugh and reflect.
Besides, ‘Nuclear’ It stands out for the vocal and emotional force with which the Zulian bagpipe embraces the entire narrative. And music does not appear as accompaniment, but as refuge, identity and home.
About the plot
Set in northern Europe, the work narrates the intense relationship between Caque and Arístides, two maracucho cousins who emigrated to Finland to work as engineers in a nuclear plant. Between tensions, cultural clashes and wounds from the past, both maintain a conflictive relationship until the arrival of Susej, also a true native of Zulia, who shakes their lives and forces them to face what they left behind.
In order to remind us that emigrating not only means changing countries, but also learning to survive emotionally in the distance, Venezuelan music – in this case the bagpipe – ends up being honored as an emotional hug that shelters the memory and heart of those who emigrate.
Under the production of Tiranube Entertainment and the direction of Jackie Briceño, Nuclear is a piece that does not seek to be just a musical theater performance, but rather an embrace of the Zulian identity and a love letter to the migrant.
Nuclear, performances through May 17 at Teatro Miami, 7265 NW 74th St, Suite 2, in Medley. For more information visit www.chinitanuclear.com
