Donald Trump broke with the decades-old tradition of US presidents to publish tax returns. The current US President and his wife are now disclosing their income for 2023.
US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill earned $619,976 (around €585,000) last year. The largest portion is made up of Joe Biden's $400,000 salary and Jill Biden's $85,985 income from teaching at a college, according to the 2023 tax return released Monday.
The Bidens reported paying $146,629 in federal taxes, a tax rate of 23.7 percent. Joe Biden also reported paying $30,908 in Delaware state income taxes. Jill Biden reportedly paid $3,549 in Virginia income taxes. The couple also reported $20,477 in charitable donations. In the past two years, the Bidens had earned less, at $579,514 in 2022 and $610,702 in 2021.

With the publication of their tax return, the Bidens are continuing a decades-old tradition of US presidents that was interrupted by their predecessor Donald Trump.
Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff also released their tax returns. It states an income of $450,299. Both paid $88,570 in federal taxes, as well as $15,167 in California income taxes and $11,599 in the District of Colombia. Her charitable donations totaled $23,026.
