MELBOURNE.- The German Alexander Zverevdefeated in the final of the Australian Open by Jannik Sinnercompared the game of the Italian champion in Melbourne with “the best (Novak) Djokovic”, in reference to the Serbian tennis player who has the record for victories in the tournament.
Sinner won this Sunday 6-3, 7-6 (7/4) and 6-3 to secure his second consecutive title in Melbourne at the age of 23.
Zverev, who has yet to win a Grand Slam tournament, admitted to feeling helpless against an opponent who surpassed him in every facet of the game.
“He is very, very similar to the best Novak,” declared Zverev, comparing the game on hard surfaces between the current No. 1 in the ranking and the tennis player who has the record for Grand Slam victories (24).
“Both miss very few hits and are very solid from the back of the court. During the exchanges, both make you think that you have to hit them harder and harder to have a chance against them,” the German explained at a press conference.

Likewise, Zverev had no problem admitting that the Italian is currently the best player on the planet, as indicated by the ATP rankings.
“He is by far the best. The facts speak for themselves: he has won all the Grand Slams played on hard surfaces in the last year. He is in another universe,” he admitted.
“For now, he is too good for me, but I will do everything I can to compete and one day lift a (Grand Slam) trophy,” added the 27-year-old Zverev.
Finally, the German assured that he will continue working on his game to fulfill the great objective missing from his resume.
“I don’t want to end my career as the best tennis player of all time who has not won a Grand Slam,” concluded the current world No. 2.
