Zelensky urges Trump to mediate in the Ukraine war in a phone call

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj urged US President Donald Trump in a telephone call to hold peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. “If a war can be stopped in one region, then other wars can certainly also be stopped, including the Russian war,” Zelensky said on Saturday on the online service Facebook, referring to the ceasefire brokered by Trump between Israel and the radical Islamic Hamas.

The conversation with Trump was “very positive,” explained Zelensky. He congratulated the US President “on his success and the agreement in the Middle East that he was able to achieve and which is an outstanding success.”

Zelensky explained that he also informed Trump about Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and spoke to him about ways to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense. On Friday night, Moscow launched massive attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities. There were power outages in large parts of the country.

In the coming days, a Ukrainian delegation led by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko will travel to Washington. Discussions will be held with the US government about possible sanctions, energy and Ukraine’s air defense.
