The delegation Venezuelan for the Paris Olympic Games 2024, was to be guided again by the glorified two-time gold medalist, Yulimar Rojas. Before participating, it was a guaranteed result, but that disappeared this Friday when the news broke that the athlete will not be present.
Through a statement released by Yulimar Rojas' press team, they revealed the absence of the Venezuelan in Paris due to an injury.
“I will not be able to participate in the Olympic Games… With a lot of pain and sadness I want to tell you that while training, upon receiving a jump, I had intense pain that translated into an injury to the left Achilles tendon,” explained Yulimar, in a statement shared by Team Rojas 45.
Rojas had to undergo surgery on Thursday, April 11. These types of surgeries normally lead to a recovery of between four and six months, which means he could return to the arena around September.
“My heart is broken and I also want to apologize for not being able to represent them in Paris… They have been very complex hours,” he said.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are scheduled to begin on July 26 and end on August 11. During this period, athletes from all over the world will compete in various disciplines in search of achieving Olympic glory in one of the most prestigious sporting events globally.
The Venezuelan triple jumper, Yulimar Rojas, in Tokyo 2020, achieved an important record that would crown her as Olympic champion: she obtained a mark of 15.67 meters outdoors and 15.43 meters indoors.
But it would be in Belgrade where he would break all world records after making a jump of 15.74 meters.
