President Donald Trump has declared a “week of anti-communism” in the USA – and attacked his political opponents. Trump denounced communism as “one of the most destructive ideologies in history” in a statement released by the White House. That’s why he declared the first week of November to be “Anti-Communism Week.”
“Today, new voices repeat old lies and cloak them with terms like ‘social justice’ or ‘democratic socialism,'” Trump said. The message of the new representatives of the ideology remains the same: “Give up your freedoms, trust in the power of the government and exchange the hope of property for the empty comfort of surveillance.”
Donald Trump versus Trump Zohran Mamdani
In his statement, Trump appeared to be referring to left-leaning Democrat Zohran Mamdani, who won last week’s mayoral election in New York and sees himself as a “democratic socialist.” The US president had called Mamdani a “communist” in the past and said after his election that US citizens were faced with a “choice between communism and common sense.”
The “Week of Anti-Communism” has a purely symbolic value. Such proclamations are used by US presidents to highlight important issues for a day or a week.
