Cape Verde’s World Cup goalkeeper, Josimar José Évora Dias, known as ‘Vozinha’, had an outstanding debut in the Chilean league by keeping a clean sheet in the goalless draw between Colo Colo and Huachipato, on matchday 22 of the championship.
At 40 years old, the goalkeeper recorded his second consecutive clean sheet since his arrival at the white team and has now accumulated 180 minutes without conceding a goal. In addition, he remains undefeated with the team led by Argentine Fernando Ortiz.
Vozinha had officially debuted with Colo Colo at the end of August, in a Chile Cup match, in which the capital team achieved victory. Subsequently, he was a substitute again in the league match against Audax Italiano, before receiving the opportunity to start against Huachipato.
A quiet game for Vozinha
The match played at the Ester Roa Rebolledo stadium in Concepción was relatively calm for the Cape Verdean goalkeeper. Colo Colo had control of the ball and dominated a good part of the match, although he was unable to convert his chances into goals.
The only moment of concern for Vozinha occurred near the end of the first half. The goalkeeper came out to cut off an aerial cross, but was unable to secure the ball, which slipped out of his hands and was left at the disposal of a rival player.
However, Arturo Vidal appeared to clear the shot and avoid any danger. Furthermore, the action ended up being invalidated due to offside indicated by the assistant.
Vozinha once again used the traditional yellow uniform of the Colo Colo goalkeepers, the same color he wore during the 2026 World Cup with the Cape Verde team, a tournament in which he became one of the figures of his team.
The love of Colo Colo fans
The experienced goalkeeper also received the support of the white fans present in Concepción. The nearly 20,000 spectators who came to the stadium cheered him at different moments of the match.
His arrival at Colo Colo took place at the beginning of August and, after several weeks as an alternative, Fernando Ortiz decided to give him the starting job in a match conditioned by the difficult conditions of the playing field due to the rainy season that has especially affected the south of Chile.
Vozinha had been called up for the first time for the superclásico against Universidad de Chile on August 23, although he remained on the substitute bench.
Colo Colo maintains the lead
The draw against Huachipato meant a loss of points for Colo Colo, although the white team continues comfortably at the top of the Chilean championship.
The team has 53 points, with an advantage of 14 points over Universidad Católica and Universidad de Chile, both with 39.
La Católica defeated Everton 0-1 in Viña del Mar on Saturday, while Universidad de Chile defeated Coquimbo Unidos 4-2. Both teams thus maintain the fight for second place, which gives a direct place to the Copa Libertadores 2027.
For Vozinha, meanwhile, the start of his adventure in Chilean football could not be better: two games, two clean sheets and no goals conceded.
