SANTIAGO.- The footballer Alexander Gonzalez of the Carabobo of Venezuela This Tuesday he denounced xenophobic chants in the Chilean club’s stadium Huachipatowhom his team eliminated in the second leg for the second round of the Copa Libertadores 2026.
“He’s hungry, the Veneco (Venezuelan) is hungry,” is heard in a video recorded from the stands at the end of the game, which González shared on his Instagram account.
The right back of the Venezuelan Granate responded to the chants with the message: “There is no better victory than a resounding victory. The truth is we were hungrier, but for goals, because we were much more.”
In a previous publication, the player had sent an extensive message in which he asked the press and fans to respect the size of the vinotinto’s victory.
“Today as Venezuelans we have hit the table here in Chili“said González, and sent a message of support to some 200 fans who accompanied the Venezuelan team in the stands.
“They generalize us as: dead of hunger, Venezuelans and so on,” he claimed.
Carabobo dominated the series (3-1 on aggregate) after winning 1-0 in the first leg and 2-1 in the second leg at the CAP Huachipato Stadium.
The Venezuelan team will face in the third round of the Copa Libertadores Sporting Cristal of Peru.
Neither Conmebol nor the teams have commented on the incident, which if proven could lead to sporting and economic sanctions for the local club in international competitions.
Independent equals in Mendoza
