Venezuelan Ronald Acuña will not be ready for the start of the season

After dealing with injuries during much of the 2024 season, the Braves They are already preparing to start the 2025 campaign with an incomplete roster, after the absence again of their offensive pillar, Ronald Acuna Jr..

President of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos informed reporters Tuesday at the General Managers’ Meetings that neither the Venezuelan Ronald Acuna Jr. nor Spencer Strider will be ready for Opening Day.

Anthopoulos previously indicated that it could be a month or two of the season before Acuña Jr is ready to return, so aspirations of seeing the Venezuelan back from day one are impossible.

Anthopoulos did not say anything about whether any part of Ronald Acuña Jr’s recovery process has gone wrong, but so far nothing has been reported as such.

Ronald Acuña Jr, MVP of the National League in 2023, suffered a rupture in the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Sunday, May 26 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, while trying to avoid being put out while running the bases.

Unlike the injury that Ronald Acuña Jr suffered in July 2022, the current one occurred at the end of May 2024, leading many to hope that he could be ready for the start of the following season. His ability to quickly return from that previous injury in 2023 raised expectations that he could overcome the challenge again and rejoin without wasting too much time.
