Venezuela declares the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago persona non grata and calls her government “garbage”

CARACAS. – The National Assembly (AN) of Venezuela declared this Tuesday, October 28, persona non grata to the Prime Minister of Trinidad and TobagoKamla Persad-Bissessar, for her support of the United States military maneuvers in the Caribbean, which Chavismo claims seek the overthrow of the socialist ruler Nicolás Maduro.

“That lady is allowing Trinidad and Tobago to be used as an aircraft carrier against Venezuela and we are going to act in every way possible so that Venezuela is respected,” said the president of the 2020 National Assembly, Chavista Jorge Rodríguez, about Persad-Bissessar.

He described the administration of ruling Kamla Persad-Bissessar as “garbage”Washington’s ally.

For her part, Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar responded ironically to the statement: “Venezuelans are fleeing Venezuela by the millions, so why would they think I would want to go there?” she indicated in a text message to the AFP.

A US ship has been in Port of Spain since Sunday for joint exercises with Trinidadian forces.

It is part of the fleet deployed since August for anti-drug trafficking operations in the region, which have so far led to the bombing of 14 suspected drug boats with a death toll of at least 57 in the Caribbean and the Pacific.

“The warships that participate in drug interdiction exercises are property of the United States, why don’t Maduro and the rest of the Venezuelan government mention President (Donald) Trump? Why don’t they declare him persona non grata?” said the leader of Trinidad and Tobago.

This Tuesday, Trinidad and Tobago announced a mass deportation process of undocumented migrants, in the midst of the crisis with the Venezuelan regime.

gas agreement

On Monday, October 27, dictator Nicolás Maduro suspended a gas agreement signed with Trinidad and Tobago in 2015. Parliament also unanimously supported this decision.

The suspension impacts the Dragon project, in Venezuelan waters very close to the border between the two nations.

Maduro described the presence of the US ship in Trinidadian waters as a “direct threat.” In addition, he accused Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar of turning her country’s territory into “an aircraft carrier of the American empire against Venezuela and South America.”
