An employee of the US immigration authority ICE shot a man in a suburb of Chicago in a raid against people without a residence permit. The man should be arrested, the US Ministry of Homeland Salvation said on Friday. He dragged the ICE employee with a vehicle control. This then fired on the man. The Ministry spoke of “appropriate use of violence”. The civil servant that is not named was violated and in stable condition. The ministry accused the shot that he had noticed in the past through ruthless driving.
Criticism of the immigration authority
The MP in the parliament of the state of Illinois, Lilian Jimenez, accused the immigration authority of an irresponsible procedure. “You have committed a member of our community.” The governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker, called for “complete, fact -based information on today’s incident”.
The fatal shots came as part of the initiative called “Operation Midway Blitz” launched by the government of President Donald Trump on Monday. The aim is to enforce immigration laws in Chicago and other parts of Illinois. In the past few weeks, Trump had threatened to combat crime and illegal immigration for troops from the National Guard and federal officials to the chicago ruled by the Democrats. The threats triggered protests in Chicago and its suburbs.
