US special representative Witkoff in Moscow: Selenskyj demands more pressure on Russia

Against the background of the Moscow visit of the US specialist Steve Witkoff, Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj Washington and other western allies asked to increase the pressure on Russia in the Ukraine war. “It is very important that all levers are strengthened that are available to the United States, Europe and the G7 countries, so that a ceasefire can really come into force,” wrote Selenskyj in online media.

Russia will not end the war if it does not feel enough pressure, the Ukrainian president added.

According to Russian state media in Moscow, Witkoff came together for a conversation with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin. Information about the content of the conversation was initially not given.

US President Donald Trump had threatened Russia with further sanctions if Moscow did not end his war in Ukraine until Friday. Trump said on Tuesday that he wanted to wait for Witkoff’s talks in Moscow before giving up any punitive measures. “We’ll see what happens,” he said to journalists. The US President had threatened with so-called secondary sanctions against Russian trading partners such as China and India.

So far, Russia has been unimpressed. Negotiations on an ceasefire in Ukraine have so far been in vain.
