US senate confirms North Dakota’s governor Doug Burgum as Interior Minister

The Senate in Washington has confirmed the billionaire Doug Burgum nominated by US President Donald Trump as Interior Minister. The Congress Chamber voted on Thursday with a clear majority for the previous governor of North Dakota. 79 senators voted for the 68-year-old, 18 against him. Burgum is the master of the US national parks, which could be opened for further oil search.

In addition to his ministerial office, Burgum should also become the head of a newly created national energy rate. He has the task of expanding all forms of energy production to restore the “fabulous oil and gas advantage” of the United States. This office does not have to be confirmed by the Senate.

Burgum confirmation as an interior minister takes place at a time when Trump wants to fundamentally redesign the climate policy of the United States. Shortly after taking office, Trump had ordered his country to withdraw from the Paris climate protection agreement, which was important for the fight against global warming.

In contrast to Trump, who denies man -made climate change, Burgum recognizes him as a scientifically proven fact. During his time as governor of North Dakota, he presented ambitious plans for climate neutrality.
