US President-elect Trump wants to abolish daylight saving time

US President-elect Donald Trump wants to abolish daylight saving time in the USA. “The Republican Party will make every effort to abolish Daylight Saving Time,” Trump wrote on his online service Truth Social on Friday. The time change has a small, strong following, but “daylight saving time is inconvenient and very costly for our country,” Trump wrote.

As in Europe, the clocks in the USA are set forward one hour in the spring and back again in the fall. The time change gives people longer use of daylight. It is also supposed to help save energy, but this has little effect. It is just as controversial in the USA as it is in the European Union.

Trump made a comeback in the presidential election on November 5th. The right-wing populist will begin his second term in office on January 20th.
