US election threat or promise? Trump wants to implement these six campaign promises quickly

Donald Trump and his Republicans triumphed in the election, the former and new president will be able to implement his announcements undisturbed. What exactly does that mean?

In a mild, almost conciliatory tone, Donald Trump stood in front of cheering supporters on the evening of his triumph and announced that he would now begin to quickly implement his campaign promises. Actually a matter of course. But he will probably have congressional support for it in the next two years. So he can rule through.

These are Donald Trump’s promises

But what does that actually mean? What exactly did the former and soon-to-be-re-president announce in the seemingly endless election campaign and what exactly does that mean – for the USA and the rest of the world? An overview:

  • Expulsion of Special Counsel Jack Smith

Trump announced that Jack Smith would be fired within “two seconds” as soon as he was back in the White House. The special investigator appointed by the US Department of Justice is essentially investigating two serious allegations against the current election winner: attempted election manipulation and misuse of secret documents. Both cases would have serious consequences for Trump if he were found guilty. As US President, however, he can instruct the responsible ministry to withdraw Smith from the investigation.
Trump will no longer have to fear anything under criminal law – at least in these cases.

  • Boost the economy, reduce inflation

Probably (again) the decisive issue in the election campaign. Although the economy is booming under incumbent US President Joe Biden, prosperity does not reach everyone. Trump’s plan: lower taxes. For example, those on tips and those for companies. He is also planning hefty punitive tariffs on goods from abroad, especially China and the EU.

Trump wants to protect domestic goods with the punitive tariffs, but this is likely to cause prices to rise again – even though inflation had just fallen.

Ukraine war “end within 24 hours”

  • Deportation of illegal immigrants

Along with the economy, migration was the dominant election campaign issue. Donald Trump very loudly announced the largest mass deportation of illegal immigrants. If necessary, he would use the military. How many immigrants and exactly which ones this would affect is completely unclear. However, experts assume millions rather than hundreds of thousands.
Aside from the fact that such deportations may not be legal, they will also be difficult to manage from a purely logistical perspective. In addition, undocumented immigrants are considered important workers and economic factors.

  • End the Ukraine war

Donald Trump announced several times that he would end the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine “within 24 hours,” without revealing exactly how. What is certain is that Trump and many Republicans want to avoid US military aid and deployments abroad as much as possible. Mainly for cost reasons.

Many experts fear that Trump could cut off billions in arms aid to the Ukrainians if they do not stop fighting and accept the current status – i.e. the Russian occupation.

  • No nationwide ban on abortion

The topic, particularly occupied by Kamala Harris, was not as important as some had suspected. Trump, however, has promised that he does not want to introduce a ban on abortion, but will leave the relevant rules to the states.

  • Cut environmental and climate regulations

In his first term in office, Trump withdrew from the Paris Climate Agreement and succeeded in cutting numerous requirements for environmental and climate protection. Which has also relieved the financial burden on many companies. He will continue with this in the next few years – and, among other things, will probably remove support for electric cars.
However, it remains to be seen whether this will be possible with Elon Musk – Tesla boss and Trump’s new man in charge. It would also stifle the booming electric car industry.
