Enrique Lopez hopes no one will point a gun at him when he knocks on the next door. This happened to him during the election campaign four years ago. “As a Latino, when I go door to door in a white area, it happens sometimes,” says the 29-year-old. He laughs, embarrassed. He doesn’t find it funny.
Fortunately, weapons are a rarity when the campaign campaigner distributes his information materials; Lopez encounters dogs much more often. Most are peaceful, but some want to defend the house. “That’s why I prefer to knock rather than ring the bell.” This scares the four-legged friends less. Knock, stand back and wait to see what happens. Pure thrill.
