US election campaign: Trump: Kamala Harris is more liberal than Bernie Sanders

Joe Biden was something of a favorite opponent of Donald Trump during the election campaign. Now the Democrat is out of the race and Trump has a new rival: Kamala Harris. He is immediately attacking her.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is targeting his political opponent Kamala Harris in the election campaign. For three and a half years, the Democrat has been “the ultra-liberal driving force behind every single Biden disaster,” Trump said at a campaign event in Charlotte, North Carolina. After US President Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race, Harris is running for her party’s nomination.

Both Harris and Trump have recently focused on particularly contested states in their election campaigns. North Carolina is one of the swing states where it is not known in advance whether it will go to the Republicans or Democrats in the presidential election on November 5th. In the past presidential elections, the Republicans won there, but the margin was extremely small. In 2008, North Carolina went to the Democrat Barack Obama.

Trump: Harris will destroy our country

“Kamala Harris is the most liberal elected politician in American history. Did you know she is an ultra-liberal politician?” asked Trump. Harris is “absolutely terrible” and even more liberal than the left-wing politician Bernie Sanders. Trump accused the 59-year-old of being unsuitable to lead the country. “She will destroy our country.” The Democratic presidential candidate Harris had previously presented herself as a tough prosecutor and addressed Trump’s legal problems. The Republican is now a convicted felon.

Trump also addressed the assassination attempt on him at a campaign rally a week and a half ago. “I’m supposed to be nice. They say something happened to me when I was shot, I became nice,” Trump said. But when you’re dealing with the Democrats, you can’t be nice. “So I’m not going to be nice, if you don’t mind. Is that OK?” Trump asked, whereupon the audience cheered.

Trump has not changed rhetoric after assassination attempt

On July 13, a gunman opened fire at a Republican campaign rally in the US state of Pennsylvania. One spectator was killed and two others injured. Trump was wounded in the ear. The 78-year-old gave his first public speech after the attack a few days later at the Republican Party Convention in Milwaukee. At the beginning of his speech, he briefly advocated unity and said: “The discord and division in our society must be healed.” But only a short time later, he fell back into his aggressive rhetoric, lying and insulting political opponents.
