Three years ago, during the withdrawal from Afghanistan, a devastating suicide attack took place at Kabul airport. Trump remembers the victims – and is using this for his election campaign.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump laid a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery to commemorate the US soldiers killed in a suicide attack in Afghanistan three years ago. Some family members of the victims were also present. On his Truth Social platform, the 78-year-old called the withdrawal from Afghanistan the “most embarrassing moment in the history of our country” and once again accused the administration of US President Joe Biden of incompetence.
Devastating terrorist attack
In the attack at Kabul airport, which took place during the withdrawal of the US military from Afghanistan, more than 170 Afghans and 11 US soldiers and 2 US female soldiers were killed. Trump has repeatedly made serious accusations against Democrat Biden and his government for the chaotic withdrawal and is using this as a target in the election campaign. The Republican wants to return to the White House after the presidential election on November 5th, and is running against Biden’s vice president, Kamala Harris.
Neither Biden nor Harris were present at the wreath-laying ceremony in Arlington. Harris said that she mourns the US military personnel killed today and every day. “My prayers are with their families and loved ones. My heart breaks for their pain and loss.” Biden said: “We must never forget the immense price that was paid for our freedom.” The victims were “patriots in the best sense of the word.”
Biden without public appointments
Biden is spending this week in his private home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and has no public appointments so far. Last week, the 81-year-old also made no public appearances after his speech at the Democratic Party Convention in Chicago on Monday. He and his wife Jill stayed at a friend’s luxury estate in California and traveled to Rehoboth Beach on Sunday.
