US court will stop Trump’s citizenship plans for the time being

A US Federal Court of President Donald Trump has initially stopped the plans of President Donald Trump for limited citizenship by birth. Judge Joseph Laplante in the US state of New Hampshire blocked a Trump decree on Thursday at an injunction, after which children of irregular immigrants were no longer automatically entitled to citizenship at birth in the United States.

Laplante also confirmed a class action lawsuit that could benefit from every child that would be affected by Trump’s plans. The Civil Rights Organization American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) called the decision a “big victory”.

The legal dispute over the US citizenship goes into a new round. The Supreme Court in Washington Trump had only strengthened in the case of June in this case. He restricted the possibility of individual judges to block Trump’s decisions nationwide.

At the same time, however, the Supreme Court gave the opportunity for collecting lawsuits. In terms of content, the highest US court has not yet commented on the question of citizenship. According to the US Justice Ministry, a decision is planned in October.

Richter Laplante’s disposal does not apply now: he admitted to the US government for a week for an appointment.

The background to the legal dispute is the 14th additional article on the US constitution. It says that all people who “are born or naturalized in the United States and are subject to jurisdiction are citizens of the United States”. The US government denies that this principle also applies to babies of women who are in the country without valid papers. The Trump decree is part of the massively tightened approach of its government against immigrants.
