US auto union UAW pledges its support to Harris

In the race for the White House, the likely presidential candidate of the US Democrats, Kamala Harris, can count on the support of the country’s largest auto union, the United Auto Workers (UAW). The USA is at a “crossroads,” said UAW President Shawn Fain on Wednesday. “We can either re-elect a billionaire whose ideas run counter to everything our union fights for, or we can elect Kamala Harris, who will stand with us in the war against corporate greed.”

“Our goal for this election is to defeat Donald Trump and help Kamala Harris win so we can build on her solid record on behalf of the working class,” Fain added. The UAW’s announcement comes as no surprise: The union had previously supported US President Joe Biden before he withdrew from the election campaign.

In addition to the support of the UAW, Biden also received the support of the USW metalworkers union, which also announced last week that it wanted to support Harris.

In the last two presidential elections, the votes of the working class were decisive – both for Trump in his surprise victory in 2016 and for Biden in 2020.
