US authorities will expose an alleged scheme to send fuel to Cuba and evade sanctions

MIAMI.- An alleged scheme to supply fuel to a sanctioned Cuban entity through illegal exports will be the subject of a press conference that federal authorities will offer this Wednesday, October 7 in Miami.

The official notice confirms the administrative seizure of 90 shipments, valued at approximately 2.8 million dollars. The products consist of middle distillates mixed with biodiesel and it is suspected that they were going to be sent to the island to evade US restrictions.

José R. Figueroa, special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Miami, will participate in the call; Daniel Alonso, director of Field Operations for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for Miami and Tampa; and Jeremy Shein, special agent in charge of the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).

The call establishes a schedule from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm at the HSI headquarters, located at 11226 NW 20 Street. The agencies will provide images of the seized merchandise along with the statement.

The document sent does not identify the recipient or those responsible for the dispatches so far.

The seizure is known in the midst of fuel shortages and prolonged blackouts that hit the population, while the regime continues without offering a solution to the energy crisis and so many other problems faced by ordinary Cubans.

DIARIO LAS AMÉRICAS will cover the appearance.
