Ukrainians must “decide their future,” they say European leaders

The leaders of the countries of the European Union insisted on Tuesday the need for Ukrainians to “decide their future”, three days after the meeting between US President Donald Trump, and his Russian couple, Vladimir Putin, to discuss war.

“We, the leaders of the European Union, applaud the efforts of President Trump to end the war of aggression of Russia in Ukraine and achieve a fair and lasting peace for Ukraine,” they wrote.

“The Ukrainians must have the freedom to decide their future,” adds the statement.

European leaders insisted that the path to peace in Ukraine “cannot be determined” without it and considered that only substantial negotiations “can be had in the context of a high fire or a reduction in hostilities.”

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, and European rulers plan to meet Trump.

The American ruler was vague about his expectations for the appointment with Putin on Friday in Alaska, and said he wants to see the ideas of the Russian ruler to end the war in Ukraine.

In this regard, Zelenski has ruled out yield territories of his country taken by Russia.

Trump said he was “a little annoying” for that position of Zelenski and insisted that there should be a exchange of territory to end the war.
