Ukraine offered a 30-day ceasefire in the war with Russia from Monday. “The Ukraine and all allies are ready for a complete, unconditional ceasefire on land, in the air and at sea for at least 30 days from Monday,” wrote Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha on the platform X. “If Russia is agreed and effective surveillance is guaranteed, a permanent ceasefire and confidence -building measures can pet on peace negotiations.”
Previously, the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj and the representatives of the so -called “coalition of the willing” – Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), France President Emmanuel Macron, the British Prime Minister Keir Strander and the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk had previously made calls to US President Donald Trump. Selenskyjs Chancellor Andrij Jermak spread a photo of the group and wrote of “historical moments”.
Both Trump and European Ukraine allies recently confirmed their demands for a 30-day ceasefire and threatened Russia with sanctions if it did not agree.
Russia calls conditions for ceasefire
As a prerequisite for a 30-day break, Russia has called for an end to the arms deliveries to Kiev as a prerequisite for a 30-day fire break. “Otherwise there will be an advantage for Ukraine,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow in the interview of the US broadcaster ABC. Ukraine would use a ceasefire to continue their “total mobilization” and bring new troops to the front to train new staff and give the current fighters a breathing space, said Peskow.
“Why should we give Ukraine such an advantage?” Peskow asked the US journalist. Russia itself is progressing on his offensive in Ukraine and has the initiative, he emphasized. At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman expressed the hope that US President Trump continued to use his influence on Ukraine and helps Moscow to urge Kiev for negotiations. He accused Ukraine to avoid negotiations.
Both warring parties always accuse each other not to have any real interest in the end of the fighting. The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj now insists on the 30-day ceasefire proposed by Trump every day. It should offer the prerequisite for negotiations to solve the conflict.
Kremlin reacts calmly to the threat of sanction of the West
Russia ruled calmly on the threats of sanctions of the West, should it not agree with the fire break. Russia will not be intimidated by this and has got used to the punitive measures anyway, Peskow told state television in Moscow. “We even imagine what we do after the imposition of these sanctions, how we will minimize your consequences,” said Peskow. “To scare us with sanctions is in vain.”
The EU and the United States have already occupied Russia with numerous sanctions in order to take the basis for the continuation of the war of aggression against Ukraine to the country economically. Western experts also certify the Russian economy that is not expected. The many economic problems are unmistakable because there is a lack of simple access to western technology. However, the large-scale raw material power continues to take billions from oil and gas sale. The money in turn keeps the war economy going.
Until midnight (11:00 p.m. CEST), a three -day ceasefire imposed by Russia on the occasion of the celebrations for the anniversary of the end of the Second World War applies. The warring parties have repeatedly accomplished violations of the fire break in the past two days.
Ukraine has been fighting against a Russian invasion with western support for more than three years.
