Benavides triumphs in the Dakar
The Argentine Luciano Benavides (KTM) was the motorcycle winner of the 8th stage of the Dakar Rally, announcing the organization of the famous race after several hours of confusion and after having initially given the winner to the Spanish Tosha Schareina.
Both Benavides and the Frenchman Adrien van Beveren stopped during the stage to help the Chilean Pablo Quintanilla, who suffered an accident at kilometer 133 of the day’s special and had to abandon due to a collarbone injury.
The organization decided to discount the time they had spent helping their teammate, so Benavides and Van Beveren surpassed Schareina in the classification.
The lesser evil for the Spaniard, second overall, is that he shaved four and a half minutes off the category leader, Daniel Sanders, leaving him now just over 11 minutes behind the Australian in the provisional classification.
