Two dead and seven injured in shooting at a bar in the city of Doral

DORAL – Two dead and seven wounded is the result of a shooting recorded early Saturday morning in a bar located in CityPlace Doral, a busy shopping center in the city of Doral, in Miami-Dade.

According to the preliminary report from the authorities, the incident occurred at approximately 3:30 in the morning at the Martini Bar in CityPlace Doral, after an argument between customers escalated.

Investigators said a fight broke out around 3:30 a.m. Saturday at the Martini Bar in the CityPlace Doral shopping center in Doral, Florida. When a security guard intervened, an individual pulled out a gun and killed the guard, said Alvaro Zabaleta, a Miami-Dade police detective.

The security guard and the attacker died at the scene, while seven other people were injured in the brawl that ended with gunshots. Police reported that the injured were bystanders who were injured in the crossfire.

Two police officers on a day off who were also providing security returned fire and one of them killed the shooter. One of the officers, a four-year veteran of the force, was shot in the leg and he applied a tourniquet to himself, Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez told reporters.

Seven other people were hit by bullets: six men and one woman, one of them a police officer.

The injured officer has since been released from the hospital, WTVJ-TV reported. The six bystanders remain hospitalized, two of them in critical condition, Zabaleta said.

A resident of a nearby apartment told WPLG-TV that he heard a volley of bullets.

“Between 3:15 or 3:30 in the morning I initially heard three gunshots,†said William Suedois. “I really didn't know where they were coming from. He thought they were fireworks. Then he heard another 10 or 15, very loud, very fast. It was very, very scary.â€

Zabaleta stated that “it is too early” to know who shot who.

He said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident, and that the Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating the two deaths.

Investigators said Saturday that they do not currently know what led up to the fight. Police continued interviewing witnesses on Saturday morning and part of the shopping center was cordoned off while police experts gathered evidence.

The injured were taken to the Jackson Memorial Emergency Center and the Kendall Hospital Emergency Center. The identity of the security guard who died in the altercation has not been released by authorities.
