Tsunami, arrival hours

The authorities reported the hours in which they foresee the arrival of the Tsunami to different sectors of the southern coast, in order to take precautions.

They recalled that the regions of Aysén and Magallanes next to the Chilean Antarctica have an hour less with respect to the rest of the continent.

In this way, it was expected that Antarctic-Base Prat was the first affected, at 10:35 am (Continental Time) 11:35 (Magellan time, UTC-3).

In Punta Arenas and Gregorio Bay El Tsunami would reach 1:25 (HC) 02:25 (HM) and 1:26 (HC) 02:26 (HM), that is, at dawn.

Recommendations

They also pointed out recommendations for Chileans residing in those areas:

*Do not return to the coastal edge until the authorities confirm that there is no danger, because a tsunami may appear surprisingly.

*Consider that the first wave is usually not the most destructive.

*In closed bays, the effects of a tsunami are amplified. Meanwhile, in ports, coves, estuaries and rivers, strong currents can be manifested.
