WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump will gather to Security Council National on Friday, the White House announced this Thursday night, after the attacks From Israel, a close ally of the United States, against Iran.
The US president, who had publicly asked Israel not to carry out the attacks hours before they occur, will attend the meeting at 11h00 local time (15h00 GMT) at the White House.
On Thursday at noon, Trump urged Israel not to attack Iran and give a chance to diplomacy. Hours later, Israeli attacks began, a hard setback for the US president, who seeks pacification.
The 78 -year -old Republican had just shaken hands during a reception in the White House gardens, while a band performed her favorite song, “Ymca”, by Village People, when the first information began to arrive.
It was not him, but his boss of diplomacy, Marco Rubio, who gave the first reaction, neutral and concise, from the United States to the operation launched by his ally, even against Iranian nuclear facilities.
Rubio said that Israel told them that the operation is “necessary for its defense,” he said that Washington did not participate in it and added that the “main priority” of the US government was to protect its forces in the region.
Trump publicly recognized on Thursday the possibility of a military scenario. He said that an Israeli attack against Iran “could happen” and that the risk of a “mass conflict” in the Middle East has led to the United States to reduce its diplomatic personnel in the region, especially in Iraq.
“I would ruin it”
But above all, when asked about his conversations with Israeli prime minister, Benjamín Netanyahu, Trump replied: “I don’t want them to intervene, because I think that would ruin it.”
He referred to the ongoing negotiations with the Iranians about the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic, whose sixth round had been announced for Sunday in Mascate under Omaní mediation.
“We will measure our success not only for the battles that we win, but also for the wars that we end and, perhaps the most important thing, for the wars in which we never enter,” Trump said in his investiture speech on January 20.
Now it remains to be seen how the United States will react in case of Iranian reprisals.
In October 2024, Washington firmly supported Israel against Iranian missile attacks and actively participated in the planning of the subsequent Israeli response.
Trump also tries to end war in Ukraine triggered by Russian invasion in February 2022, but the results have been unsuccessful so far.
On Thursday he said to be “disappointed” with both Ukraine and Russia.
