Trump signs Dekret to ban trans women in women’s sports

US President Donald Trump has further strengthened his attacks on trans people: The right-wing populist signed a prescription on the exile of transgender athletes from women’s sports on Wednesday. “With this decree, the war against women’s sports has ended,” said Trump when signing in the White House, in which he was surrounded by dozens of applauding and cheering athletes of all ages.

The decree mainly refers to women’s sports in education. The Ordinance entitled “No Men in Women’s Sports” provides for the deletion of federal funds for schools and universities to include the transmitters and women in their women’s teams. Trump warned against those educational institutions that “let men take over women teams or let the changing rooms (from women)”, which could lead to the withdrawal of federal aid.

The US sports university association National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) welcomed the decree and announced that it would adapt its rules accordingly in the coming days. So far there has been “a patchwork of opposing laws of the states and court decisions” on this question, said association leader Charlie Baker. Trump’s decree now provides “a clear national standard”.

The human rights organization Amnesty International, on the other hand, described the regulation as a new “cruel attack on transgender people, the clear intention of which it is to further stigmatize and discriminate against LGBTQ+people”. The English abbreviation LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer.

Since returning to the White House, Trump has made the abolition of funding and equality measures for trans people one of his priorities. Trans people or transgender are people who do not accept the role assigned to them due to their biological gender characteristics as a man or woman.

Trump also used the current signing of the decree against transathletes to put pressure on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the Transgender question – with a view to the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

In these games, his government will “not watch how men defeat female athletes,” said Trump. Therefore, his government will “reject all the visa applications of men who try to enter the United States fraudulently by identifying themselves as female athletes”. In this context, Trump repeated his lie, the Algerian boxer IMane Khelif, who won in Paris Olympiagold, was a man.

Trans people are only a small minority in the United States – but a great political issue. During the election campaign last year, the Republican Trump attacked his democratic opponent Kamala Harris Hart for her support for transgender rights.

Right on his first day on January 20, Trump then instructed the federal authorities to recognize only the male and female gender – as a result, for example, no gender -neutral passports are exhibited. A little later he signed a decree against the “transgender ideology” in the US armed forces, which aims at the exclusion of such people from the military.
