Trump calls increased unemployment figures "manipulated" and fires civil servant

The US government determined an increase in unemployment to 4.2 percent in July, but President Donald Trump “manipulated” the numbers. On Friday, he announced in his online service Truth Social to fire the responsible head of government Erika Mcentarfer. It was appointed by President Joe Biden and, in the election campaign, was beautified in favor of the Democrats. Trump did not provide evidence of these statements.

The doctorate Mcentarfer has headed the Office for Labor Market statistics since 2023. Trump claimed that her office clearly inflated the number of jobs created in March, August and September 2024. Shortly before the election in November, this was obviously done to help his competitor Kamala Harris to win the election.

The figures for this July, June and May, on the other hand, are far too low, Trump was outraged. According to the U.S. Ministry of Arbeits, only 73,000 jobs were created in July, significantly less than experts expected. At the same time, the ministry corrected the job number for May and June by a total of 258,000 down. The Ministry of Labor attributed this to the masses of public employees ordered by Trump and the uncertainty of employers through their customs policy.

Trump, on the other hand, once again claimed the “Boome” economy since taking office in January. Mcentarfer is now being replaced by a clearly more competent and more qualified candidate, he wrote. Important figures such as the labor market statistics should not be “manipulated for political purposes,” he emphasized.

Mcentarfers earlier stations include the US census authority, the Ministry of Finance and the White House.
